  • Your Bluetooth Questions Answered – by Mike Selvon
By Bluetooth Advertising on May 24th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Bluetooth technology has changed how cell phone users communicate. Those distinctive ear pieces are not just an accessory. It allows cellular users to talk using a hands-free device. But there is probably more to it than you might realize.

For example: did you know that at one time it was considered for wireless Internet instead of Wi-Fi? Many states are considering passing laws requiring all cell phone users to use hands-free devices while driving so to reduce the amount of distractions from trying to drive and talk at the same time. Do you have more questions regarding Bluetooth services? In this article we will address some of the basic questions and concerns regarding Bluetooth Technology.

    How does it work?

Bluetooth technology works in the same manner as your laptop does when you are utilizing wireless internet. A signal is transmitted and then received by the other device. The signal is sent in packets of information.

The signal is recognized by what is termed “protocols.” Most devices utilize at least one set of standard protocols to allow other devices, not of the same manufacturer, to communicate. There are some however that do not use the same protocols so there can be problems when the device tries to communicate.

What providers offer Bluetooth services on their phones?

A cell phone provider is not the one that ensures that the phone has Bluetooth capabilities. It is not an added feature like a data plan or text messaging. Its technology comes from the actual device itself. If you want to be able to use a hands-free device you must check the features on each individual phone model.

Can Bluetooth be used for anything besides making or receiving phone calls?

Its technology has many different uses. You can send ring tones to another phone, or you can send any type of information. The technology is very similar to that of wireless internet service.

Are some cars built with Bluetooth technology already installed?

Automotive manufacturers have long been working with it in order to offer the feature of having a car with a built in Bluetooth system. The first cars rolled off the market in the United States in 2004. In Europe the technology in cars has become far more popular.

The convenience of having it built into the car and having it able to sync up with your cell phone has proved tremendously valuable. As the technology becomes more integrated, the ease of use will increase.

The technology of wireless Bluetooth is all about short range communication that effectively eliminates the use of wires connecting devices, at the same time maintains high security level.

Bluetooth has turned into an in-demand gadget if only because of its low usage of power as well as cheap cost. Bluetooth specification offers structures for a variety of gadgets to easy connection and communication with one another.

Bluetooth technology throughout the years has gained worldwide popularity because of the outstanding satisfaction that is provides such as enabled devices. Bluetooth gadgets connect without cords via short distances and networks called piconets.

A single gadget can connect with multiple gadgets within one piconet all at the same time. This means that each gadget can belong simultaneously to a number of piconets. Such piconets are established as gadgets that are Bluetooth enabled finds itself in and out of the area of the radio.

  • The Truth About Buying a Bluetooth GPS Unit! – by Rick Cole
By Bluetooth Advertising on May 24th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

If you thought you couldn’t afford a Bluetooth GPS unit, think again!

Like a lot of emergent technologies, the marketplace for GPS units is changing so rapidly that what was true six months ago is no longer true today. With the way prices have dropped, there are certain features you might have thought were out of your reach, but which are actually comfortably within your price range.

If you thought you would love to have the convenience of Bluetooth on your GPS receiver, but thought it was too expensive, you might be in for a pleasant surprise!

But before I launch into who carries Bluetooth and what are the best models with Bluetooth, let’s talk a little about the marketplace in general. Then we’ll discuss Bluetooth, and I’ll make some recommendations.

Although there are a ton of GPS manufacturers, there are three in the United States who dominate the whole market. These three are (in order) Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan.

Garmin controls about half the U. S. market, while Tom Tom and Magellan essentially each have about 20% market share. That means these three companies sell almost 90% of the GPS’s sold in the U. S. For that reason, I’m going to stick to talking about products made by these three big companies.

Now, let’s turn our consideration to Bluetooth, what it is and what it does for you.

Bluetooth is a technology that lets electronic communication devices “talk” to one another. I can download pictures from my cell phone straight to my computer using Bluetooth, for instance. Or, if I’m in traffic and I don’t want one hand constantly holding my cell phone I can get my signal routed to a little device I wear on my ear. That way I can drive and talk at the same time–hands free!

    That’s the magic of Bluetooth!

Driving in heavy traffic and talking on one of those Bluetooth devices tends to work out well. But what if we add another complex electronic device into the mix? What if in addition to driving and talking, you need to be hearing directions from your GPS device?

Well, balancing two complex electronic devices while driving is just too much. Wouldn’t it be great if you could merge the cell phone with the GPS, so that you could drive and then just have to pay attention to just one other device.

(In heavy traffic, you probably just want to pay attention to the traffic, by the way!)

Well, if your GPS also supports Bluetooth, you can do all your talking actually through your GPS device. You’ll never have to even touch your cell phone this way!

Okay, here’s where the misconception is.

It wasn’t that long ago that Bluetooth capability would set you back $500 or $600!

But, as with all electronic devices, GPS prices have taken a nose dive lately.

Now, you can get Bluetooth for slightly over $200 from the industry leader, Garmin! Tom Tom offers Bluetooth for slightly over $300!

So, the truth about buying a Bluetooth GPS unit is it’s within the reach of virtually everyone who can afford a GPS unit of any kind!

  • The Bluetooth Marketing: A New Trend In The Direct Proximity Marketing – by Etienne Richelle
By Bluetooth Advertising on May 24th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

A new trend appears in the mobile marketing since the beginning of 2006 : The Bluetooth marketing, or proximity marketing.

This new tool works as a direct marketing channel to end users mobile phones. The first generation of these tools established a connection with the Bluetooth enabled phones (activated and set to visible) which are within 20 meters from a dedicated hotspot. A question appears on the screen of the phone in the form ‘Do you accept content from Alterwave ? Yes / No’, where Alterwave is the name of the company willing to advertise. If the user presses Yes, the download proceeds at a speed of typ. 50kB/sec over Bluetooth. The data transfer is 100% free. A video of 500 kB would be sent in about 10 seconds.

If the user presses No, the popup disappears from the screen, and if the users does not press either key the popup will disappear when the phone leaves the Bluetooth covered zone.

This new media raises a lot of interest in the advertising and marketing industry. The kind of files that they push is images (still or animated), sounds (mp3) and video.

The risk to see the Bluetooth marketing seen as Spam does exist, but an opt-in is also possible by requiring the user to approach his phone close to a given point (typ. 1-2 meters) for triggering the download.

The challenge is now for media and marketing agencies to use this innovative tool wisely, and certainly to send value added content to the users. The Bluetooth marketing has a lot of impact on end users, so it should be used with wisdom.

Alterwave is one of the leading companies in this market.
